ALM's LegalTech West Coast is rapidly approaching (June 24-25). The first day of the legal technology event, which will be held at the Westin Bonaventure hotel in Los Angeles, will include 19 panels on five different seminar tracks. Here is a rundown of upcoming highlights from each of those tracks during the first day of LegalTech.
Track 1: Modernizing E-Discovery Track: “Using Mobile Technology in Electronic Data Discovery,” 10:30 a.m.-11:45 a.m. Hunter McMahon, director of discovery and technology at Driven Inc., will moderate the panel, which will examine the security challenges in conducting electronic data discovery on mobile devices, among other topics. Speakers include: Ronie Schmelz, partner at Edwards Wildman Palmer; Dionne Rainey, partner at Hunton & Williams; and Richard Rushing, chief security officer at Motorola Mobility. Track 2: Data and Analytics: “Recover or Delete Dark Data? Track 3: Advanced IT: Three industry professionals will discuss results from the International Legal Technology Association's recent technology survey and discuss trends pertaining to how law firms are using technology. “Legal Technology – Good Trends, Bad Combinations and Ugly Results,” at 10:30 a.m.-11:45 a.m., includes Jim McCue, director of information systems at Rodney, Dickason, Sloan, Akin & Robb; Dean Leung, chief information officer at Holland and Knight; and Scott Christensen, director of information services at Edwards Wildman Palmer. Track 4: The New Legal Ecosystem: At 2:15 p.m.-3:30 p.m., Tim R. Hwang, partner, Robot Robot and Hwang, and David Whelan, manager, legal information of The Law Society of Upper Canada, will address the question, "Competitor or Frenemy?" Should small firm lawyers be more like a concierge than a traditional lawyer, and actually encourage clients to use self-help tools?
